The First Time I Held Space as a Coach

“The fear was never permanent. It was simply waiting to be met with safety.”

There’s something unforgettable about your first real coaching session. Not because of what you do, but because of how deeply you choose to be. This wasn’t about questions or reflections – it was about presence. About sitting beside another human being in stillness, not knowing where it would lead, and trusting that something true would emerge.

My coachee arrived with openness. She shared how the past few weeks had felt scattered, uncertain. She was stepping into new beginnings and wondering, “I just wish I was more comfortable with the newness.” We didn’t rush. We softened. Breathed. Paused often. Let silence do its work. A shared field began to form – not just between us as coach and coachee, but as spiritual partners holding space for each other’s becoming.

She explored where her fears lived – in her throat, in her chest. And then something opened. She noticed how often she overthinks, tries to use logic to make sense of the discomfort. And how, for the first time in a while, she could stay with what she was feeling – without needing to fix it.

Slowly, there was lightness too. Laughter. Curiosity. She began to see herself from a distance—not through judgment, but through compassion.
And then, gently, something softened.

“I’m seeing yellow,” she said. “It’s radiating from my chest… like light. It feels like safety.” That light became something more. Playfulness. Innocence. She saw herself as a little girl on a trampoline – free, unafraid, completely alive.

It wasn’t a breakthrough. It was a shift. And as she reconnected with her essence, I reconnected with mine. Because while this was my first formal coaching session, it didn’t feel new. It felt familiar. Grounded. Real. It felt like I was coming home – to a way of being I’ve always known but never fully trusted. This session affirmed who I’ve always been. Someone who listens deeply, trusts the unseen, and creates space for truth to emerge – quietly, naturally, and completely.

If there’s something stirring within you, something you’ve been sitting with, I’d be honoured to hold a safe space for a deep, honest share.
